Daniel P. Moynihan Speaks at Commencement

Daniel P. Moynihan, accomplished politician and sociologist, speaks at Wheaton’s 132nd commencement. Two years before his 1967 speech, Moynihan authored the controversial Moynihan Report, a sociological study of Black American families and the War on Poverty. In the following decades, Moynihan would go on to serve as a United States Senator representing New York, an ambassador to the United Nations and India, and a Counselor to President Richard Nixon. In his address to the Class of 1967, Moynihan explores the political causes and implications of ideological conflicts worldwide.
