Perdita Constance Huston Speaks at Commencement
Perdita Constance Huston, women’s rights activist and journalist, speaks at Wheaton’s 145th commencement and is awarded an honorary degree. Huston was the director of public affairs for TIME in French-speaking countries and served as a regional director of the Peace Corps. In her address, she encourages the class of 1980 to command a presence in the political decision-making processes they are often shut out of. Huston reminds the graduating class that “one courageous person of principle can shape the events” and that “there is no room for lack of courage or vision in your generation.”
