Mrs. Wheaton Dies

Eliza Baylies Chapin Wheaton dies on June 2 at the age of 95. She watched over the Seminary for more than seventy years, serving as the great benefactress of the school whose creation she had suggested to her father-in-law. Wheaton Female Seminary is named as her residual legatee, and her estate adds to the school’s landholdings and endowment.

Mrs. Wheaton lived by the maxim that she set for her Wheaton students, “It is my wish and hope that as they come in contact with the world, it shall be the better and happier for their having lived in it.”
