Gilbert Hood, Jr.

Gilbert Hood was trustee from 1957 to 1982, vice-chairman of the board from 1964 to 1971, treasurer from 1971 to 1975, and trustee emeritus from 1982 until his death in 1985. Mr. Hood received an honorary degree in 1982. His grandfather was the founder of the dairy business, HP Hood, with which Gilbert, Jr. was associated for more than 58 years, becoming a director.

He also became a director of such financial institutions as the Fidelity Group of Funds and the Winchester Savings Bank. His autobiography is entitled Four Score-Plus: Life History of Gilbert H. Hood, Jr. Mr. Hood’s sister, Emily, attended Wheaton in 1916-1918, and his daughter, Emily, graduated in 1953.

Hood Court was dedicated to Gilbert Hood in 1963, as was the Balfour-Hood Center in 1986.
