Carrol M. Shanks Speaks at Commencement

Carrol M. Shanks, President of the Prudential Insurance Company of America and Wheaton College Trustee, speaks at Wheaton’s 125th commencement. Three years prior to his commencement address at Wheaton, Shanks was featured on the cover of TIME Magazine. Speaking in the midst of the Cold War, Shanks uses his speech as a platform to denounce communism. To conclude, Shanks states that communism is a “struggle of ideas and ideals, not guns and rockets” and that colleges and universities equip us with the knowledge to engage in such a struggle.
