Garry Trudeau Speaks at Commencement

Garry Trudeau, political satirist and cartoonist, speaks at Wheaton’s 147th Commencement and is awarded an honorary degree. Trudeau is best known as the creator of the Doonesbury comic strip and has won a Pulitzer Prize for his cartoons. His humorous and hopeful speech praises the importance of women’s colleges. Trudeau concludes his speech to the class of 1982 by remarking, “from those of us floundering out here in the real world, to those of you preparing to enter it, may I just say, welcome. We need you”.
