Wheaton Becomes a College

Wheaton Female Seminary is granted a college charter by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and becomes Wheaton College, completing a fifteen-year-long program of expansion and improvement.

Ida Josephine Everett becomes the first dean of Wheaton College.

The Student Government Association and Student Life Association are founded to represent the “consensus of opinion of the whole student body” and to encourage individual responsibility, integrity and self-government.
