Outdoor Chapel

The Outdoor Chapel, also known as the Woodland Chapel, was established in 1967 at the request of Susan Johnson, class of 1969, then president of Wheaton’s Religious Association, and the other RA members.

The chapel was a clearing of land surrounded by pine trees in the Wheaton Woods south of the campus. Approximately 100 people could be seated on the chapel’s wooden benches, which amounted to less than 10% of the school’s population at the time it was built. During the 1990s, the chapel was vandalized and has since fallen into disuse.
